It’s still one of the better albums of 2012 for sure which is saying a lot cause there were so many fucking classics that came out that year. Kaleidoscope Dream includes some of the ADC songs in varying form, as well as the six songs from the July and September album-preview EPs. But it’s when he starts venturing towards the more artful side of writing that it kinda falls a little flat for me. There’s some singles from that album that are fucking perfection though like “Adorn”, “How Many Drinks?” and even deep cuts like “Pussy is mine” which highlight Miguel’s strengths as a singer and R&B/Pop writer. Also I feel like some verses and choruses don’t really stick the landing melodically, like Miguel just stuck with the first melody that came to mind. Kaleidoscope Dream takes him down a new path of musical exploration with groundbreaking cutting edge precision. There’s some songs that don’t really go anywhere or that build up to some anti climatic instrumental ending like the title track for example.
